Milou, the Cat Who Enjoyed Life to the Fullest

A year ago today, on October 20, 2016, came the time to let Milou go. He crossed the rainbow bridge less than two weeks after Texas.

Milou | Texas, a Parisian Cat in America

Milou was what we would call a bigger-than-life figure. I had not known him since he was a kitten — my husband had been owned by him for a while when we met, well, both in Paris. He was the last of our three cats that immigrated with us from France.

To my husband’s recollection and mine, Milou had always had health issues, but he sure loved life — and food — and was lucky to have found my husband who always took good care of him. On top of his health issue, there was the leprechaun accident in Ireland: One night, we still don’t know exactly why — although we suppose to chase a leprechaun — and how, Milou managed to jumped out a window of our 3rd or 4th floor apartment in Ireland… and he fell on the floor at the bottom of the building. He hurt one of the ligaments in one of his rear legs, but was extremely lucky: this was Ireland, and the grass was water-soaked. Additionally, had he fallen just two feet or so away from the grass, he would have hit concrete and probably would have never survived. I remember telling him affectionately how he had to hold on to life because one day we would be moving to America with him.

And holding to life he would. In fact, ironically, part of what saved him was that he loved food so much ;)

Milou loved to eat and he loved to play. Until only a year or so before his death, he always seemed like a kitten in spirit, playing every time he could. With strings, balls, our shoes, whatever! He also luuuuved catnip.

Earlier in life, Grouik had taken care of him when my husband adopted him as a kitten and they were inseparable. Well, Grouik was much more independent and sometimes there would be fights, but never for long.

Life with Texas wasn’t always easy — Texas liked to tease Milou but Milou hissed a lot at Texas. When Kitshka arrived, it took him months before he stopped hissing but they finally became friends and played together often.

For some reason I’m thinking about this only now as I write these words, but a picture of Milou in the fields of bluebonnets would have represented him well, I think: curious for adventure and life, playing with the wind and chasing butterflies, always like a kitten. Milou was also a gorgeous kitty.

It was hard losing both kitties so close to each other. In many ways, it was, at least for me, as if some part of my past was dying too — Texas and Milou somehow linked my husband and I to France and to each other, too.

Milou | Texas, a Parisian Cat in America

I bet Milou has found, along with Texas and Grouik, gorgeous fields of catnip at the rainbow bridge, and they are probably trading French meows classes for some more. We miss you all three so very much.

Follow my blog with Bloglovin

Hiya everyone! How are you all doing?

Texas on the apartment bike | Texas, a cat in... Austin

Sorry to start this post with this invitation to follow me on Bloglovin’ but they require this for my human to link my Bloglovin’ profile to my bloggie.

As I mentioned before, we are switching following from email to Bloglovin’. Sadly, my human noticed too late that instead of asking WordPress not to send emails anymore (without unfollowing your blogs), she was unfollowing your blogs… Again though, I’ll keep following you from Bloglovin’ but I’m sorry my human made this mistake.

Also, I have been commenting again in your bloggies, and I don’t always see my comments appear, so it may be that because of my absence, they are going to your spam folders. Would you mind checking fur me? Thanks!

That’s all for today! I hope all y’all are doing fine. Me? Well, more outrageous news are to come about my human.

Texas | Texas, a cat in... Austin

Changes from Us

Changes from Us

Hiya! It’s me again!

Can you believe it? Two days in a row!!

Well, okay, this is mostly an admin post to let y’all know that some changes are to be expected from my bloggie in the weeks to come.

I had a serious talk with my human. Like this.

Texas | Texas, a Cat in... Austin

She did do most of the talking, but she agreed to try to spend more time helping me with my bloggie.

First, we are moving my blog subscriptions from email to Bloglovin. Apparently she prefers this method now. Whatever brings results I meow! So if you see my email address being unsubscribed from your mailing list, this is because we are moving the subscription to Bloglovin, not because I’m gonna stop reading your bloggie.

Second, my human told me she won’t be able to spend the time she used to spend with my bloggie because apparently she has other things to do. Like work. Other work. Sigh. Hiss.

Third, we might change the name of my bloggie for two reasons: one, some of my furriends now call me Austin. My name is Texas. Two, she feels like changing it because she thinks “Texas a cat in NY” was funnier than “in Austin” due to my name. Anyone has a clue what she’s talking about? Is it just human gibberish?

So there you go. Hopefully, this will help in the process of getting me back online!

Purrs to all!

A special message for a special Ladycat

I would like to thank the beautiful Lisbeth of The Cat on My Head for being my Valentine, and her human for being such a nice human and contacting me and dressing us up so nicely. Can you adopt me? My human is not up to the job!

Lisbeth and Texas - Valentine's Day | Texas, a cat in... Austin

Dear Lisbeth,

This is a real honor to go to the Ball at Madi’s with you! You are the prettiest Ladycat!

Here is a little something just for you, to go with your dress:

Awards Wrap-Up Day

Awards Wrap-Up Day

We still have a bunch of awards to accept from last year (as well as new ones for this year). In the spirit of starting the year right, I won’t put the dates the awards were given to me, in order not to shame my human…

So, in April 2013, Nylablue nominated me for the Versatile Blogger Award. I already have it but thank you very much, Nylablue, for thinking of me!

April 2013 was a good period for awards. Nerissa nominated me for the “Best Moment Award.”

best moment award

Thank you so much, Nissy! I really appreciate how you always think about my bloggie!

RULES FOR BEST MOMENT AWARD:

Winners re-post this completely with their acceptance speech.
This could be written or video recorded.
Winners have the privilege of awarding the next awardees!
The re-post should include a NEW set of people/blogs worthy of the award;
and winners notify them the great news.

RESOURCES:

What makes a good acceptance speech?
– Gratitude. Thank the people who helped you along the way
– Humor. Keep us entertained and smiling
– Inspiration. Make your story touch our lives

Get an idea from the great acceptance speeches, compiled in MomentMatters.com/Speech
Display the award’s badge on your blog/website, downloadable in MomentMatters.com/Award

Here is then my acceptance speech:

Dear Nissy,

Thank you so furry much for thinking of me for this award and so many others! I am very late accepting it, but doing so makes me realize that you had to prepare an acceptance speech for this award about a month before the BlogPaws Conference, during which you would be awarded the “BlogPaws Best Blog Writing Award.” Coincidence? I don’t think so! Both awards were well-deserved for you.

I seize the occasion to apologize for being late on accepting those awards. It is not that I do not care. Au contraire, mes amis ! My human, like many humans, doesn’t have her priorities straight and made me wait all that time to thank you. So thank you for keeping on thinking about me. We’ll try to do better in 2014!

Purrs.

And for this award I am nominating:

– Zoey of The Island Cats
– Tutu of Furries of Whisppy
– Emma of My GBGV Life

Back in April 2013, Binky of Angelswhisper2011 nominated me for the “I am Part of the WordPress Family Award.”

wordpress family award

Thank you so much Binky!

The rules are as follows:

1. Display the award logo on your blog.

2. Link back to the person who nominated you.

3. Nominate 10 others you see as having an impact on your WordPress experience and family

4. Let your 10 Family members know you have awarded them

5. That is it. Just please pick 10 people who have taken you as a friend, and spread the love.

So in no particular order, please take a moment to congratulate my list of bloggers ~ they are a special part of our WP Family Community!

Quoted from the Rules: “This is an award for everyone who is part of the “Word Press Family” I started this award on the basis that the WordPress family has taken me in, and showed me love and a caring side only WordPress can. The way people take a second to be nice, to answer a question and not make things a competition amazes me here. I know I have been given many awards, but I wanted to leave my own legacy on here by creating my own award, as many have done before. This represents “Family” we never meet, but are there for us as family. It is my honour to start this award”

Okay, so I guess that means that I should pick WordPress bloggers?… Here we go:

– Savannah of Savannah’s Paw Tracks
– Sammy of One Spoiled Cat
– Sundae and Dianna of These Days of Mine
– Janina of Age-Defying Recipes
– Jo Woolf of The Hazel Tree
– Teddy of Cowboys and Crossbones
Cravesadventure
– The gang at Dash Kitten
– Newton of Sometimes Cats Herd You (Happy Gotcha Day, Newton!)
– Oscar of My Three Moggies

In June 2013, Speedy nominated me for one of Nerissa‘s awards, “My Favorite Things Award.”

Nylablue nominated me for the “Friends and Followers Award.” I already have it but thank you, Sweetie, for thinking of me!

Closer to now, in December 2013, Nerissa nominated me for several awards, two of which I didn’t have: the “Because You’re Fantabulous Award” and the “Blog of the Year 2013 Award.”

fantablulous award

Blog of the Year Award 1 star jpeg

Thank you, Nissy!

I am glad to say that there is no requirement for the “Because You’re Fantabulous Award”!
My nominees are:
– Everyone at Brian’s Home
– Lisbeth of The Cat on My Head
– Quill (per Kitshka’s request) of Housecat Confidential
– Binky of Angelswhisper2011

Now, regarding the “Blog of the Year 2013 Award” I was nominated not only by Nerissa, but also by Binky. Which means I have 2 stars already!

Blog of the Year Award 2 star jpeg

The rules can be found on the Thought Palette Blog, but for the first time, I will copy them here.

The instructions for this award are simple:

1 Select the blog(s) you think deserve the ‘Blog of the Year 2013’ Award

2 Write a blog post and tell us about the blog(s) you have chosen – there are no minimum or maximum number of blogs required – and ‘present’ the blog(s) with their award.

3 Let the blog(s) that you have chosen know that you have given them this award and share the instructions with them – (please don’t alter the instructions or the badges!)

4 Come over and say hello to the originator of the ‘Blog of the Year 2013’ Award via this link – http://thethoughtpalette.co.uk/blog-awards-2/blog-of-the-year-2013-award/

5 You can now also join the ‘Blog of the Year’ Award Facebook page – click the link here https://www.facebook.com/groups/BlogoftheYear/ and share your blog posts with an even wider audience.

6 And as a winner of the award – please add a link back to the blog that presented you with the award – and then proudly display the award on your blog … and start collecting stars…

stars

Yes – that’s right – there are stars to collect!

Unlike other awards which you can only add to your blog once – this award is different!

When you begin you will receive the ‘1 star’ award – and every time you are given the award by another blog – you can add another star!

There are a total of 6 stars to collect.

Which means that you can check out your favourite blogs – and even if they have already been given the award by someone else – you can still bestow it on them again and help them to reach the maximum 6 stars!

Blog of the Year Award 6 star jpeg

So, since I was already nominated twice, I can nominate those that nominated me! There we go:
– Binky of Angelswhisper2011 (I know you have your 6 stars already, but I still want to nominate you
Nerissa’s Life
Savannah’s Paw Tracks
The Cat on my Head
One Spoiled Cat
Spitty
Katnip Lounge
Sparkle
Dash Kitten
The Island Cats
Housecat Confidential
Cathy Keisha
Pawsitively Pets
Kjelle Bus
Flynn
Mr. Bowie
Cody
Speedy

It’s hard to choose just a few…

Are you still with me?

Still in December 2013, The Cat on my Head nominated me (Kitshka?) for the “Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award.”

Sisterhood

Thank you so much!!

Here are the rules:

1. Provide a link to and thank the blogger who nominated you for this award.

2. Answer ten questions: (These will be for Kitshka)

Do you prefer getting or giving presents? Getting!
Your favorite number … I don’t have any really
Your favorite day of the week … Any.
Your favorite flower … Eww!
What is your passion? … Playing!

Kitshka here. I think this award has circulated already so I will give it to my favorite blogger only, Quill of Housecat Confidential.

4. Provide links to the nominated blogs and kindly let the recipients know they have been nominated.

5. Include the award logo within your blog post.

Finally, Nerissa nominated me for another award recently, the “Cracking Crispmouse Bloggywog Award.”

cracking crispmouse award

Such a super cool award! Thank you Nissy!

Here are the rules:

1. To be eligible for the award, a bloggywog must spread one or more of joy, peace, hope and love.
2. Anyone receiving the award may, if they wish, pass it on to any other anipal bloggywogger whose
bloggywog satisfies rule number one.
3. There is no minimum or maximum limit on the number of furiends you can pass the award onto:
you can be as Scroogy or as generous as you like.

I’ll nominate 3 blogs to let the award circulate:
The Cat on my Head
Cathy Keisha
The Island Cats

The hall of shame for my human is not over. In May 2012 (!), My Three Moggies had nominated me for the “Sunshine Award”; in January 2013, The Princess Tail and Passion For Photography nominated me for the “Very Inspiring Blogger Award”; in October 2013, Meekucat nominated me for the “Dragon’s Loyalty Award”; in February 2013, Binky nominated me for the “Liebster Award”; in October 2012 (!), Clowie nominated me for the “Super Sweet Blogging Award”; back in 2012 too, I was nominated for the “Blog of the Year 2012 Award” by several bloggers, including Bailey (the only one that my human bookmarked apparently).

Except for the “Blog of the Year 2012 Award”, for which my human NEVER helped me to do what was necessary, I already have/had the awards listed just above but I thank you all for thinking of lil’ me.

As always, if you don’t accept awards, or if you already have the one for which you have been nominated, take this acknowledgement on my bloggie as a sign that I like to read you furry much!

I hope I haven’t forgotten any. If I have and you have nominated me for an award that I have not acknowledged, please feel free to hiss at my human in the comments!!

Now I need a nap. Human! Please let all my Furriends know which awards they have been nominated for!

Thankful Thursday: Furriends, Boxing Day, and Awards

This is a period to have hopes (of what Santa is going to bring to you)…

Waiting for Santa Claws | Texas, a cat in... Austin

…to have fun – this is Boxing Day!…

Boxing Day | Texas, a cat in... Austin

Boxing Day 2013 | Texas, a cat in... Austin

…and to be thankful and to make resolutions.

I am really thankful for the readers of my blog: that’s you! I thank you for taking the time to stop by, read, like and/or comment on our posts. My human knows too well that time is a rat precious and never allows for humans to do everything they want to do. You are there for us when we laugh at our humans, when we need purrs, to share showcase treats. All of you, I consider my Furriends!

I also received many awards that I have not officially accepted yet (but I am about to). As a way to say thank you to my Furriends, I have created a brand new award that I am introducing today. The “Share the Love, Share the Box” Award (on Boxing Day, ain’t that appropriate?) is a way to say thank you on this special day of December 26. I want to keep the rules simple so without further ado…

Share the Love, Share the Box Award | Texas, a cat in... Austin

1. Thank the blogger who nominated you for the award, and link to his/her blog
2. Post the award on your blog
3. Share the award with five bloggers and let them know!
4. Go find a box and have fun with it (optional but highly recommended!)

My five nominees are:
– Nissy of Nerissa’s Life
– Binky of Angelswhisper2011
– Hisia of Bleue comme Aby
– Sammy of One spoiled cat
– Sparkle of Sparkle the designer cat

It was really really difficult to give it to just five bloggers, but I hope the award will be shared, so all of those I wanted to share a box with will eventually get one!

I received other awards that I want to accept too.

Nerissa nominated me for one of his own awards, the Friends and Followers Award.

Friends and Followers Award | Texas, a cat in... Austin

Thank you so very much, Nissy! The rules are very simple.

1. Firstly, you need to post the award on your blog.
Done!

2. Secondly, you need to thank the blogger givin’ it to you and, if you don’t already, follow them. You can follow by e-mail or feed or a reader or any other method available. That even includes just checkin’ in with them every day or so if they don’t have any kind of followin’ method set up.
Done!

3. Thirdly, you need to pass along the FRIENDS & FOLLOWERS award to a few readers whom you know already follow you.
I know the award has already circulated so my apologies if you already received it. My nominees are:
– Binky of Angelswhisper2011
– Eirwena of Journal d’un chat : les aventures d’Eirwena
– Kjelle Bus of Charlie Rascal’s Destinies and Adventures
– Quill and Greyson of Housecat Confidential
– Flynn of Eric and Flynn’s Adventures

4. And fourthly – which is also lastly – you need to let ’em know. Let the bloggers to whom you’ve given the award know you did so.
Will do as soon as the post is published!

Franny’s Feline Film Forum has nominated me in November for the Dragon’s Loyalty Award. I already have it but I want to thank you so much for thinking of me!!

Magdalena Vandenberg nominated me for the Very Inspiring Blogger Award. I already have it too but I also want to thank you for thinking of me!!

There are others but I want to make a separate post because this one is already long enough.

Thank you all so much! I hope you enjoy plenty of boxes every day of the new year to come!

Thankful Thursday: The Cat Blogosphere Calendar and an Award!

Have you seen it? Have you seen it? What?

I know many of you have. But soon we won’t be able to order it! Well, it is not too late: orders close tomorrow.

CB-Calendar_00

Yes, you have until tomorrow to order it if you feel like it, of course! Click here!

I am in it. So are Kitshka and Milou… and so many of my furriends from the Cat Blogosphere! Imagine starting your days in 2014 with one of us kitties?

The Cat Blogosphere Calendar | Texas, a Cat in... Austin

Texas claims we’re in this calendar…

The Cat Blogosphere Calendar | Texas, a Cat in... Austin

…but I can’t find us!

Of course, you can always visit all of us online each and every day of 2014 =^.^=

I am so happy and honored to be among so many furriends! Thank you to Truffle & Brulee and their human Mom Paula for collecting our pictures, putting the calendar together, placing orders and sending them to us! We are very thankful for this nice calendar! I am not sure if someone else helped, if so, we’d like to thank this or these persons too!

It was recently Nerissa’s, of Nerissa’s Life, 2nd Blogoversary!

I must apologize to Nerissa: I was late wishing him a Happy Blogoversary because I have been mostly away from the ‘puter the past weeks. I am sorry Nissy.

On top of that, Nerissa nominated me for a super cool new award, the Mouses Award!

MOUSES! award

What do I have to do to accept this award?

Firstly, you need to thank the blogger who gave you the MOUSES! Award.

Thank you so furry much, Nerissa!

Secondly, you need to post the award somewhere on your blog.

It’s on the sidebar on the right!

Thirdly, when acceptin’ the award, you need to use the word MOUSES! in a sentence. For this requirement, you may also choose to use one of the many variations of MOUSES! if you so desire. You know… like… mousin’, mouses, moused-up, etc…

I am very grateful Nissy but, Mouses! I am not in New York anymore, I’m in Austin. I know I know, it’s mousesly complicated… so that’s okay. I think my human secretly wishes I still was a cat in New Mouses York ;-)

=^.^=

Finally, you need to pass the MOUSES! Award on to two or more bloggers. You can pass it along to as many as you like but please try for at least two so that the award is spread around the blogosphere and doesn’ fizzle out or anything. And you’ll wanna pass the award on to bloggers whose work you read regularly and would therefore, sure as mouses recommend. See what I did there? Yup, you spotted it. I used a derivation of MOUSES! in a sentence. Lead by example, I say. Lead my example…

Since I am a little late posting about it, I saw many of you received it. So, I nominate:

– Alfie at Mollie & Alfie
– Binky at angelswhisper2011
– The black panthers at the Creative Cat

That’s it for today! Thank you efurry one!

Caturday Monthly Kitty Links and Other Things

Here it is: November.

Not that I really care, I’m a kitty, but that means it’s time for a new monthly kitty links post!
I don’t have many this month, because my human didn’t spend much time reading blogs.

Let’s go!

Do you need a hug? Here!

It looks like this doggie will not share with the kitty!

Exit the cronut, time for the cat donut!

That’s all the links I have for today!

I want to share a funny thing that my human saw the other day at her HEB supermarket. Please don’t show it to Kitshka, or she might get some ideas in her little cutie head!

The little doggie in front was walking and carrying the little brown doggie in the back. How cute is that?

Cute doggies |Texas, a cat in... Austin

Finally, I thought I would share two of our October Instagram pictures! I am so happy that I already have +300 furriends on Instagram. You can follow me here =^.^=

Happy Caturday everyone!

I Am Officially a Cat Scout! And I Have a Partner for the Ball!

Dear Furriends!

I am glad to announce that I am now officially a Cat Scout! I have been declared Purrpared as I persisted in getting access to the Cat Scout site despite the fact that a goblin had probably deleted my confirmation email!

Today I am going to do some shopping with the human plastic card, to be even more purrpared! I think I will shop at Rei. They have lots of stuff that can come handy to a Tenderpaw. Look!

Purrparation

I am also very honored to go to the ball with Lisbeth of The Cat on My Head.
I would like to thank Speedy for suggesting Nylablue, and to Honey Delite of Pawsitively Pets for offering to come with me. I would have been honored to go with these two pawsome Ladycats too! I decided to accept the first official offer, which came from the beautiful Lisbeth!

Now I have to find out what to wear. I was thinking about being a gargoyle, like the ones in Notre Dame de Paris. What do you think? Do you think I’d make a scary gargoyle?

Tocks Story, Cat Scouts, and the Halloween Ball

Tocks Story, Cat Scouts, and the Halloween Ball

I’m taking a break from my Mondays are for Memories series.

Those of you who are furriends with me on Facebook know that I have been extra nice this weekend in order to lift my human’s spirits: cuddles, staying next to her, coming when she calls (well, that’s not often that I would do that!), purring all day…

All of this generally works pretty well. One thing I found out works well too in this kind of situation, is making the humans laugh. Have you tried?

I tried to play monorail cat, for example…

Tocktober | Texas, a cat in... Austin

… but the couch was too big for my tocks!

Who said it was my tocks that were too big?!?

Anyway, I asked Kitshka to show her tocks to see if the problem was mine. Mademoiselle Fluff gave us a show!

So I relied on playing with her to distract the human (please, forgive the mess around, strangely cleaning the house is not necessarily a cheering activity for humans…)

The human laughed. Mission accomplished.

In other news, I have officially asked Lisbeth of The Cat on My Head to come with me to the Halloween Ball. But I am waiting for her answer.

I have also convinced my human to register me for the Cat Scouts. I have never received my confirmation email thanks to which I can complete my registration though. So I guess I’ll have to get my human to send them an email.

Maybe my human should cuddle with me now, while I am waiting for these two impawtant email?

Happy Tocktober everyone!
