Furry friends
A Visit to Washington, DC’s Cat Cafe “Crumbs & Whiskers”
My human, not content with spending those days away from me, has chosen to go to the new DC cat cafe for her birthday yesterday.
The good part though is that she could report to me on the cat cafe.
Overall, my human really liked the cafe. There are two floors and about 20 cats going about their business, letting clients pet them – or not. They are also all for adoption, so the cats in the cafe, hopefully for them, will change as they get adopted. You just have to book the time when you want to come online, and then come, have some coffee or tea and be a slave nice to those kitties.
The cafe seems to be successful as it was packed at 9 am on Saturday. She said the humans who worked there were very nice too and obviously love cats.
I think it’s a great idea to help cats and humans know each other better and to get some homeless kitties a home and a better chance for adoption as the humans can freely play with them.
If you think about it, these kitties have dozens of servants all the time. I wonder if one of them would be a better typist than my human…?
You can find more pictures on my human’s blog too, here (yes, because she had the nerve to keep some for her blog!).
What do you think about cat cafes? Have you visited one before?

Kitshka Friday: Happy Purrthday, Mademoiselle Kitshka
I don’t look like I’m three, do I?
Changes from Us
Hiya! It’s me again!
Can you believe it? Two days in a row!!
Well, okay, this is mostly an admin post to let y’all know that some changes are to be expected from my bloggie in the weeks to come.
I had a serious talk with my human. Like this.
She did do most of the talking, but she agreed to try to spend more time helping me with my bloggie.
First, we are moving my blog subscriptions from email to Bloglovin. Apparently she prefers this method now. Whatever brings results I meow! So if you see my email address being unsubscribed from your mailing list, this is because we are moving the subscription to Bloglovin, not because I’m gonna stop reading your bloggie.
Second, my human told me she won’t be able to spend the time she used to spend with my bloggie because apparently she has other things to do. Like work. Other work. Sigh. Hiss.
Third, we might change the name of my bloggie for two reasons: one, some of my furriends now call me Austin. My name is Texas. Two, she feels like changing it because she thinks “Texas a cat in NY” was funnier than “in Austin” due to my name. Anyone has a clue what she’s talking about? Is it just human gibberish?
So there you go. Hopefully, this will help in the process of getting me back online!
Purrs to all!
Nope, You Can’t Have The Chair
I think I will need to train the male human…
It’s Caturday! Cats of Detroit
So, my human went to Detroit in July. Yep, another instance of abandoning me, even if only for 3-4 days.
She did think about taking pictures of the “kitties” she saw. I use quotation marks because I’m not sure they’re all kitties. You tell me!
Here’s a mural:
Now these are tigers!
Ah! Here’s a kitty! Can you see the kitty?
Kitshka Got Herself What? A Tattoo?
See, this is what happens when the male human is in charge!
What? Er, yes I do want my daily treats, male human, why? Oh! No, of course I didn’t really mean that. **Purrs**
Thanks Ceiling Cat! It is just a sticker! She managed to put it on herself alone. No seriously, no human involved!
What do y’all think? Is this proper for a Lady Cat to wear a sticker?
A special message for a special Ladycat
I would like to thank the beautiful Lisbeth of The Cat on My Head for being my Valentine, and her human for being such a nice human and contacting me and dressing us up so nicely. Can you adopt me? My human is not up to the job!
Dear Lisbeth,
This is a real honor to go to the Ball at Madi’s with you! You are the prettiest Ladycat!
Here is a little something just for you, to go with your dress:
Happy Valentine’s Day Y’all!
Oh Pfft! But I Don’t Need a Blogcation!
I am back only for a little while… My human has put my bloggie on forced blogcation.
Here’s what we think about this:
She has started a new job on which she wants to “focus.” She even stopped her own blog! I thought “Yeah! She’s gonna have more time for more impawtant stuff like… MY bloggie!” Pfft. Well no.
We will be on blogcation at least until next weekend. I am sorry I won’t be able to visit until this coming weekend either.
Kitshka isn’t exactly pleased with that either, I must meow. In fact, she is devastated:
Before my human is shutting the laptop on my paws (Human: “I would never do that, Texas!”), I want to thank Angel, Isabella and their human at BeadedTail. I won Tidy Cats coupons on their bloggie – thank you so much!
I also want to thank Judy & C.A.T.S for sending me a furry nice message to make sure we were doing fine. (I do hope my human did not make me miss other impawtant messages.) Thank you so furry much! We are doing fine, but my human is just giving too much impawtance to this work thingie!
Thank you for your patience! Sending purrs to everyone!
Cats in New York: Meet Nicholas and his Human, “the Cat on the Head Guy”
We still have some posts about NYC kitties, and this one would have been welcomed before Christmas. Why? Because the kitty’s name is Nicholas, like, well, Saint Nicholas.
It was the first time that my human spotted Nicholas. She saw him and his human several times afterwards, Nicholas always comfortably sitting on his human’s head.
Apparently, Nicholas and his human have been walking NYC streets for several years, at least since 2008, Nicholas earning his human a dollar or two to have his picture taken. My human saw them back in 2012, in Tribeca.
According to a a 2008 NYT article, the human’s name is Charlie Perito and he started walking the streets of NYC with his cat on his head after losing his job:
Mr. Perito said he was just another victim of the recession and increasing joblessness, though he also admitted to problems with the law and addiction. A Staten Island native, he said he worked for years fixing air-conditioning and heating systems, but recently lost his job. So he taught Nicholas the balancing act and proceeded to use the gimmick to balance his budget.
Mr. Perito said it was not the first time around with the old “lose the job, train the cat” trick. He has lost other jobs and trained other cats before, he said. Anyway, Nick is pretty cute, and the whole thing looks pretty amusing, so Mr. Perito makes out pretty well.
According to a 2011 blog post here:
Charlie told me Nicholas is the THIRD cat that he has performed with, and that Nicholas loves being perched up there on the summit while watching all the happenings in New York City as they walk around town.
I asked him how did he start doing this and he told me how he was with his girlfriend one time and the original cat climbed up the chair where Charlie was sitting and rested on his head..He then found he could get up with the cat and walk around, so he took it to the streets of NYC.
This blogger also made a video in which you can see Nicholas climb on top of his human’s head:
My human said that Nicholas seemed not scared at all. He was just looking around him at what was going on. She wished she had had treats in her purse that day to give Nicholas (what?!?).
