Remember Me Thursday – Light A Candle for a Pet – September 26 – #LightForPets

#LightForPets

When my human goes to a pet store to buy our food, she cannot help but check on the kitties waiting for their forever humans to come adopt them. It breaks her heart to sometimes see the same kitties grow old in these cages, going from playful kittens to resigned “teenage” cats, to sad adult cats. She would adopt them all if she could, I bet, but besides not having the financial means to do so, she also cares about our well-being. I demand a lot of attention from my human. Yes, I love Kitshka and I enjoy having her to play with, but I need my time alone with my human and she knows that I’d rather have her for myself.

In the meantime, she knows that some people who can afford to adopt a cat, and express the desire to do so, sometimes do not do so for the silliest reasons: how many times has she heard someone tell her that they would love to adopt a kitty, but they abhor the idea of having to clean the litter box every day. Huh?
Sometimes, people just wait because, well, because there are other things happening in their lives, and they think a kitty will be an impediment in their busy life.

Many of these people are good people who would benefit from a cat-human relationship and give much in return to the kitty. But those who have never been owned by a cat do not know the benefit a human and a kitty will get from each other in terms of love, happiness, fun, and so much more.
In addition, they do not gravitate in kitty universe like we cat bloggers do. They don’t go to the pet store every other week, and see the same kitties going from a feeling of “life as fun,” to a feeling of “life in a cage, why?” They do not necessarily know that if some cats do not get adopted, they are killed in some shelters. My human was shocked as a kid when she learned that. Most don’t know. They don’t know about cat overpopulation and shelter overpopulation either.

Why am I telling you all this, on a bloggie that is usually more about my cuteness and fun?

I was contacted on Twitter by the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals to know whether I could help share the meow about an event that will take place next Thursday, September 26. I had not heard of this event, so I thank them for pointing that out.

What is “Remember Me Thursday – Light a Candle for a Pet”? From the website for the event:

“Animal lovers and organizations across the globe unite on the fourth Thursday of September to light a candle in remembrance of the millions of orphan pets who lost their lives without the benefit of a loving home and to shine a light on the millions of orphan pets still waiting for their forever homes.”

“Millions of shelter pets lose their lives each and every year. Join the awareness campaign – be a light for pets by promoting awareness about pet adoption. By remembering those we have lost, we can shine a light on the ones we can save.”

[Click here to see the video on YouTube]

From their press release:

Helen Woodward Animal Center is uniting with animal-lovers and animal welfare organizations globally in a Remember Me Thursday candle-lighting ceremony. The candles, lit on the exact same day across the world, will honor the millions of pets who lost their lives over the past year without the benefit of a loving home. Word of the awareness campaign has spread in the form of celebrity social media posts and rescue facilities from New York City to Puerto Rico to Japan have joined the cause.

You can learn more by following both links above.

No, lighting a candle on one night will not give a home to all the animals who are waiting to be adopted. But it raises awareness, and if the word is shared around the word, and candles lighted, chances are that some people will see the message, ask about the candles, and maybe – hopefully – decide to and do adopt an animal.

That is why I decided to share this event with you ahead of time. This is next Thursday.

I have focused this post on kitties because, obviously, this is a cat blog. But there are many different animals waiting to be adopted, which this event will honor.

A Tribute to Furriends and Two Kittens Looking for Their Furrever Home

Although we had planned to slowly go back to regular posting and I had something cool to show your from my place of birth, Paris in France, I want to dedicate this post to another subject.

As you probably all know by now, yesterday was a(nother) sad day: we learnt that our dear furriend Dash had been forced to the Rainbow Bridge. My human and I were shocked by the news of course, and by the circumstances that caused this. We had not known Dash for such a long time – about a year. Dash was a Twitter legend and of course, we had met him on Twitter, during a pawty held by Sparkle.

We had exchanges with him and his human and could feel how much they were dedicated to helping kitties together and they radiated kindness.

We want to pay a simple tribute to all the furriends that we lost recently. We are very sad to see you go, but we will always remember you and keep you in our hearts.

Below are graphics made by Miss Ann of Zoolatry, or the humans of the kitties gone to the Bridge. I hope it is okay that I have borrowed them. They are pictures of furriends I knew and followed (You can click on the pictures to visit their blogs). I know that other furry friends have gone to the Bridge too, and this tribute is for them too.

I find it appropriate to also use this post to share a special message regarding two kittens who are looking for their furrever home: Ray Charles and Rachel. If you haven’t heard of them, please share this info so that anyone who can be interested in adopting them could know about them.

They are currently being fostered by Selina‘s humans. You can also find more information by clicking on the image below: it will take you to their blog, set up by Brian’s human.

Thank you for your help!

To all a good weekend. Take care and hug your furry friends and/or humans!

Mondays are for Memories: A Kitten’s Nap

My human had an urgent (understand: she had completely forgotten about it) paper to finish yesterday and could not finish the post we wanted to have today.
This morning, she felt like she had caught a cold or something, so today’s post had to be rescheduled.

I haven’t posted a “Monday are for Memories” for some time now, so here is a picture of me napping in my carrier when I was a little less than 3 months. I had just been adopted (3 days before). The picture was taken on my human’s birthday (really human, who cares about that?).

Have a great day, furriends!

Happy Milou’s Day!

Happy Milou’s Day!

Hiya everyone!

Today is Milou’s birthday! Or so I’ve decided.

You see, we don’t know exactly when Milou was born.

A little history (my half-brother Milou is old…):
Milou was adopted at some point in late summer, according to my human’s husband. My human’s husband doesn’t remember when exactly (have you noticed furriends how female humans are better at remembering dates, especially birthdays and stuff like that, than male humans?) and since he didn’t know my human at the time, well, my human cannot remember for the rest of us!

To keep Milou’s story of adoption short, my human’s husband adopted him when it was clear that the woman who had first adopted Milou because he was a cute kitten had realized that adopting a cute kitten implied responsibilities other than just, well, watching the cute kitten. So my human’s husband and Grouik welcomed him in their (Grouik’s) home. It was about 13 years ago.

Grouik quickly became protective of Milou and they have lived together for 13 years.

Milou has had many health issues during his life, including one instance of trying to catch a leprechaun in Ireland and falling from the fifth floor of the human’s apartment building. Thank Ceiling Cat the always-wet grass of Ireland (It was often raining – my human’s words) and Milou’s fat (the vet’s words) saved his life and left him with a minor injury at one of his hind legs.

Anyway, to keep a long story short, on top of his health problems (like a special urinary diet, among other stuff), I think Milou is missing Grouik still. Okay, he’s not always been very nice to me, but he’s about okay with the brat little sister and he is old(er) now.

Soooooo, I’ve decided that today would be his day, September 16. Milou’s Day.

Will you celebrate with me and wish Milou a Happy Milou’s Day?

Here are some funny pictures of my half-brother Milou!

The first encounter with the little sister

Today, Kitshka, our new little sister, has been home for a week exactly (well, tonight it will be a week).

The humans had kept her in their room at first, separated from us. As if we couldn’t smell her. Well, Milou didn’t seem to realize. I think he didn’t want to. She had her little bowl of kitten kibbles (the same yummy ones I had when I was a kitten too!), her little bowl of water and her little litter box.
Since she felt like exploring after the first night only, they decided to prudently open the door and see what our reaction would be. Of course, we didn’t like the idea at first and we had to make it clear, was the little brat fur ball to stay, who was there first.

Below is a video of Milou and I first meeting her. Please excuse the humans’ mistakes: the orientation of the iPhone camera, the mess, the feet!

As I have mentioned before, we started playing on our second day of knowing each other, and we still do! Milou has been hissing a little less these past couple of days so it looks like she has won everyone’s heart almost. Welcome to your furever home, Kitshka!

Hope you like the video!

Oh boy! It’s a girl!!

Oh boy! It’s a girl!!

Miss Satchie and family: if you’re reading, we thought a lot about you yesterday. Let me explain.

So the humans brought Frisco to the vet to make sure he was in good health and so he would get his vaccines. Frisco is in perfect health but the vet decided to check, to be sure you know, that he was a boy.

Well…

No, the kiddie is a little girl. MOL!

Of course we all love her the same (Milou’s still hissing too) but the humans decided to change her name to Kitshka (They wouldn’t tell me why this name!).

You Go Girl!

P.S.: Sorry, awards acceptance tomorrow. I need a nap now.

Mondays are for memories: The day my human adopted me – Part 2

Two weeks ago I had started a post about the day my human adopted me. Here is a video to complete it!

It is a video of me arriving in my new home. If you watch long enough, you will be able to see Grouik and the first time we met!

I hope you liked this little retrospective (vocab builder) =^.^=

Finally an udpade: I won some Fancy Feast Mornings and… a newbie!

Hiya Furriends!

Sorry again for the long silence. After her seminar thingie, my human and I played a lot, like you could see on my last post, and then she began having some “important” stuff to do, of which I will tell you more later in this post. You’re going to be surprised! I know I was!!

First, an update on Grouik’s page: it will be up soon. The humans are making videos of all the footage (vocab builder) they have. I will let you know when it is ready.

Secondly, I received several awards from furriends: THANK YOU ALL SO VERY MUCH! Sorry for being so late. I will accept them in a special post on Tuesday (because Mondays are for memories you know, and I already missed one, and I owe you Part 2 of my adoption day).

Thirdly, I want to send a HUGE thank you to Sparkle that had a giveaway of Fancy Feast Mornings a while back and I was one of the winners! I received it this past week. There was my name on the package! Look:

Wow, that’s for me?

Can someone open it now?

What you mean “it’s called mornings and it’s the afternoon already?!” Seriously?!

Okay. Here is my prize, this is morning and we’re still in bed. Wake up and open these for me now.

Human?

Ah, finally! Mmmmh those look good

Can I open these myself? Hmmmm…

For the grace of Ceiling Cat, human, open one!

Are we done with the pictures? Can you open one now?

Thanks to the humans at Nestle Purina for this yummy package. Milou cannot have it (because of his health diet). But me and the kiddie love it.

Yeah, that’s right, that’s my fourth point, the humans being busy: I’m no longer the youngest member of our family. Sniff.

Friday evening, they came back home with a kitten! Look at him:

His name is Frisco. He cannot stop moving! Except when he takes long naps.

Well, okay, okay, I will be able to get over it and play with him (we have already started to play together actually), but at first it was kind of scary: are the humans going to exchange us for this kitten, will my human keep on giving me treats, cuddles, and everything?

Milou didn’t want to get it at first. We both had to make it clear who was the Boss here (Hey Newbie, we were here first!).

All in all, Frisco is, I must admit, fun, and I will finally have a furry friend to play with. BUT, I say the humans could have asked (Gee, Milou is now hissing at everyone in the house again). For example, yesterday night, I surprised my human joyfully playing with the little fur ball. I was outraged! She saw that and tried to make up for it, but it was too late: no cuddles, no petting, no purring, no nothing but the back of disrespect! Was she going to replace me just like that?!

But today we played, both with the human and the kiddie so I think it might – might – be a good thing. If the kiddie stops eating food from my bowl! Ah kids!

Here are some pics of the both of us. Sorry they’re blurry, but Frisco can’t stop moving!

Mondays are for memories: The day my human adopted me – Part 1

It’s nice to look back to happy memories sometimes. I recounted how my human adopted me.

Here are some pictures of my first days with my human and her then-boyfriend, now-husband, human, whatever. Since I was very cute and little (am still cute but a little bigger), my human nicknamed me “P’tite Crevette” (Lil’ Shrimp). She’s still calling me that today.

We have more pics but I will share them next week! Have a wonderful week everyone!

Look at me already exploring my new Grouik’s and Milou’s territory.

Oh, what are these? They look fun to play with!

So this is what my furry friends were talking about? A furrever home?

This is how small (and cute) I was (still am) (cute that is).

And finally for today, this is the picture my human put in my little passport. I was in the arms of my human’s Mom.
