Milou, the Cat Who Enjoyed Life to the Fullest

A year ago today, on October 20, 2016, came the time to let Milou go. He crossed the rainbow bridge less than two weeks after Texas.

Milou was what we would call a bigger-than-life figure. I had not known him since he was a kitten — my husband had been owned by him for a while when we met, well, both in Paris. He was the last of our three cats that immigrated with us from France.

To my husband’s recollection and mine, Milou had always had health issues, but he sure loved life — and food — and was lucky to have found my husband who always took good care of him. On top of his health issue, there was the leprechaun accident in Ireland: One night, we still don’t know exactly why — although we suppose to chase a leprechaun — and how, Milou managed to jumped out a window of our 3rd or 4th floor apartment in Ireland… and he fell on the floor at the bottom of the building. He hurt one of the ligaments in one of his rear legs, but was extremely lucky: this was Ireland, and the grass was water-soaked. Additionally, had he fallen just two feet or so away from the grass, he would have hit concrete and probably would have never survived. I remember telling him affectionately how he had to hold on to life because one day we would be moving to America with him.

And holding to life he would. In fact, ironically, part of what saved him was that he loved food so much ;)

Milou loved to eat and he loved to play. Until only a year or so before his death, he always seemed like a kitten in spirit, playing every time he could. With strings, balls, our shoes, whatever! He also luuuuved catnip.

Earlier in life, Grouik had taken care of him when my husband adopted him as a kitten and they were inseparable. Well, Grouik was much more independent and sometimes there would be fights, but never for long.

Life with Texas wasn’t always easy — Texas liked to tease Milou but Milou hissed a lot at Texas. When Kitshka arrived, it took him months before he stopped hissing but they finally became friends and played together often.

For some reason I’m thinking about this only now as I write these words, but a picture of Milou in the fields of bluebonnets would have represented him well, I think: curious for adventure and life, playing with the wind and chasing butterflies, always like a kitten. Milou was also a gorgeous kitty.

It was hard losing both kitties so close to each other. In many ways, it was, at least for me, as if some part of my past was dying too — Texas and Milou somehow linked my husband and I to France and to each other, too.

I bet Milou has found, along with Texas and Grouik, gorgeous fields of catnip at the rainbow bridge, and they are probably trading French meows classes for some more. We miss you all three so very much.

Our Best Wishes for a Purrfect New Year 2013

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2013!

2012 brought us many surprises, good and bad.
The sad part was that we lost Grouik. We still miss you lots, Grouik, especially Milou.
The good part was that we met many furriends, may I add furry and human. Our furriends were there to support us in the bad times, we tried our best to support them when they needed some purrs too. We are very lucky to have found you and we really – REALLY – appreciate you visiting my little blog. So THANK YOU!

For 2013, we wish you all that your heart desires and deserves, as well as lots of purrs, treats, and for the humans, some of our fur to make your black pants a little more sophisticated!

Before closing the 2012 page, we thought we would do a small retrospective (VBP) of some of our 2012 posts. We decided to show you those that got the most likes, one per month.

I started the year in January with a Yeats poem. In February, bed sharing had only just begun.

In March, bed sharing was in full swing.

In April, Milou was trying to steal my wind (no pun intended – please!).

July was a very sad month, because Grouik went to the Rainbow Bridge. So instead of linking to a post, I will link to his page.

In December, we kept ourselves warm and almost cozy!

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2013!

September 9 – Pet Memorial Day and Mo Cats Day

I am extremely late in posting today. My human insisted on using the evil vacuum cleaner which made her lost precious time. Anyway.

I posted yesterday about Mo Cats Day, in reaction to a Facebook post that was sent our way. Some kitties posted their picture on the Facebook page, but not so many, so please don’t hesitate!

I also learned that today was Pet Memorial Day.

Below you will find two pictures of my half-brother Grouik, that we lost in July, as you probably know if you are reading my blog. You can follow the link to his special page by clicking on the pictures.

We miss you lots Grouik. I think Milou is a little lost without you. But we have a new little sister. Milou is a bit grumpier, as you would guess, but he’s getting used to her. I think you would have liked little Kitshka.

I also happen to think that Mo Cats Day is a great way to honor Grouik actually. I think he would have liked to have a confirmation that we do rule the world (and the Internet for that matter). He sure ruled his human’s heart and life.

Many purrs to all.

Mondays are for memories: My first can of wet food and Milou trying to eat it

Mondays are for memories: My first can of wet food and Milou trying to eat it

Hiya everyone!

Today is a holiday here in the U.S. It is Labor Day. So my human will be working for me, since it’s LABOR Day. Heh. Happy Labor Day, human. She’s happy with that apparently =^.^=

Here is a video of when I ate my first can of wet food. It was very yummy and I wasn’t about to let Milou eat it for me. Although my human bought even better food since then, like with entire pieces of tuna or chicken. But I digress.
I was almost 4 months at the time. It was in my human’s boyfriend’s tiny apartment in Paris.

It’s a bit long but Milou is patient and also, if you wait til the end, you can see that even Grouik had a hard time having a bit of my leftovers.

Enjoy Monday!

One month without Grouik

It’s been exactly a month today that our beloved Grouik has left us. Not a day has passed without the humans thinking about him. We all miss him so very much.

Thankfully, we have our memories and the humans have plenty of video footage so we can watch him over and over again.

The pages (“A little bit about myself” and “My half-brothers“) on the menu on top of my blog have been updated and we have added a special page for Grouik. You can access it from the menu on top of the blog, or the first badge of him on the sidebar. You can also go to this page by clicking on the badge below.

There are many pictures of him, some words from his human, pictures of his last resting place, his little paradise that his human made for him, and a video. There will probably be one or two more videos posted later but we will let you know about that.

This is our modest tribute to our Grouik.

Finally an udpade: I won some Fancy Feast Mornings and… a newbie!

Hiya Furriends!

Sorry again for the long silence. After her seminar thingie, my human and I played a lot, like you could see on my last post, and then she began having some “important” stuff to do, of which I will tell you more later in this post. You’re going to be surprised! I know I was!!

First, an update on Grouik’s page: it will be up soon. The humans are making videos of all the footage (vocab builder) they have. I will let you know when it is ready.

Secondly, I received several awards from furriends: THANK YOU ALL SO VERY MUCH! Sorry for being so late. I will accept them in a special post on Tuesday (because Mondays are for memories you know, and I already missed one, and I owe you Part 2 of my adoption day).

Thirdly, I want to send a HUGE thank you to Sparkle that had a giveaway of Fancy Feast Mornings a while back and I was one of the winners! I received it this past week. There was my name on the package! Look:

Wow, that’s for me?

Can someone open it now?

What you mean “it’s called mornings and it’s the afternoon already?!” Seriously?!

Okay. Here is my prize, this is morning and we’re still in bed. Wake up and open these for me now.

Human?

Ah, finally! Mmmmh those look good

Can I open these myself? Hmmmm…

For the grace of Ceiling Cat, human, open one!

Are we done with the pictures? Can you open one now?

Thanks to the humans at Nestle Purina for this yummy package. Milou cannot have it (because of his health diet). But me and the kiddie love it.

Yeah, that’s right, that’s my fourth point, the humans being busy: I’m no longer the youngest member of our family. Sniff.

Friday evening, they came back home with a kitten! Look at him:

His name is Frisco. He cannot stop moving! Except when he takes long naps.

Well, okay, okay, I will be able to get over it and play with him (we have already started to play together actually), but at first it was kind of scary: are the humans going to exchange us for this kitten, will my human keep on giving me treats, cuddles, and everything?

Milou didn’t want to get it at first. We both had to make it clear who was the Boss here (Hey Newbie, we were here first!).

All in all, Frisco is, I must admit, fun, and I will finally have a furry friend to play with. BUT, I say the humans could have asked (Gee, Milou is now hissing at everyone in the house again). For example, yesterday night, I surprised my human joyfully playing with the little fur ball. I was outraged! She saw that and tried to make up for it, but it was too late: no cuddles, no petting, no purring, no nothing but the back of disrespect! Was she going to replace me just like that?!

But today we played, both with the human and the kiddie so I think it might – might – be a good thing. If the kiddie stops eating food from my bowl! Ah kids!

Here are some pics of the both of us. Sorry they’re blurry, but Frisco can’t stop moving!

Thank you for your support

I want to thank all our furry and human furriends for their support.

Your comments, tweets, posts, thoughts, purrs, purrayers, every kind gesture, were appreciated beyond words. THANK YOU.

The humans want to take some time to pick up more pictures of Grouik for his special page. In the meantime, here is one of Grouik’s human favorite pic (and activity) of our beloved Grouik.

We also would like to thank Savannah and her Mom for their kindness and for taking the initiative to ask Zoolatry to create 2 special badges for Grouik. Thank you to Zoolatry for such a nice job! Please visit their site if you haven’t already!

Thank you to those who blogged about Grouik: Wheezyrider, Savannah, Alasandra.

We are really moved by the kindness of the furry community that reached out to us these past few days. We are not surprised, but we certainly are moved.

Many purrs to all!

In memory of Grouik… let’s enjoy life

Hiya everyone.

It feels kind of hard getting back to blogging and the humans are not feeling too well. But my human and I agreed that how hard it might be, we still can’t stop living and we owe it to Grouik to be strong and to enjoy life.

Milou and I are a bit confused. Someone is missing here. Who is going to finish my food now? Well, okay Milou will try, but the humans will prevent him from doing it (because he’s on a special diet).

Also I can’t go out now. My human is all nice and cuddling me all the time (and I am doing my best to console her too) but I can’t go out. She promised to go out with me though.

My human and I will resume reading your bloggies my furriends. Please forgive us if we don’t comment just yet, we’re often left with a loss for words or meows.

Before we resume some kind of regular blogging, we would like to dedicate this post to Grouik. We will also work on a special page in the menu (just for him).

Here are a couple of pictures of us together. Hope you will like them. At the end of the post is a video I had already posted but that I want to post again. Hope you like it.

Take care everyone, hug your humans and stay safe.

This first one was taken here in the U.S. It is not very good quality because it was taken with an old iPhone.

This second one is even worse quality, I know, but it is the three of us. It was taken in Brussels, Belgium. Please forgive the mess (we were partly responsible).

This last one was taken in France, in my human’s old bedroom, at her Mom’s place. Please forgive the mess too, that was just before we all moved.

And here is the video. Tomorrow or the day after, regular blogging will resume. We love you Grouik!
