I’m taking a break from my Mondays are for Memories series.
Those of you who are furriends with me on Facebook know that I have been extra nice this weekend in order to lift my human’s spirits: cuddles, staying next to her, coming when she calls (well, that’s not often that I would do that!), purring all day…
All of this generally works pretty well. One thing I found out works well too in this kind of situation, is making the humans laugh. Have you tried?
Anyway, I asked Kitshka to show her tocks to see if the problem was mine. Mademoiselle Fluff gave us a show!
So I relied on playing with her to distract the human (please, forgive the mess around, strangely cleaning the house is not necessarily a cheering activity for humans…)
The human laughed. Mission accomplished.
In other news, I have officially asked Lisbeth of The Cat on My Head to come with me to the Halloween Ball. But I am waiting for her answer.
I have also convinced my human to register me for the Cat Scouts. I have never received my confirmation email thanks to which I can complete my registration though. So I guess I’ll have to get my human to send them an email.
Maybe my human should cuddle with me now, while I am waiting for these two impawtant email?
This is, for now, the last cat mural I will post. Next week I will show you other, real NYC kitties (I bet you will love the next series of posts!).
This mural is just across the street of the Whiskers Holistic Pet Care store I featured last week, and it is also a Chico mural.
This mural features humans and a kitty!
It’s been a long time since I have posted a Monthly Kitty Links post (last time was before we moved). So here is one with links going from June to September 20013!
Finally, you might have noticed that I have added a countdown to Halloween in the sidebar on the right. If you don’t know yet, Mollie & Misaki are hosting a Halloween ball! Would a beautiful ladycat be willing to come to the ball with me?
In the meantime, my human spotted this in Austin.
This is not our vet. Apparently, the statues are always there, but they have been decorated for Halloween. Ain’t that cute?
We are still trying to catch up with all the nice awards I received but that my human never helped me accept.
I have to ask: do I look like a sleeping dragon on this picture? (You can click on it to bigiffy, don’t be afraid)
I am asking because today I am accepting the Dragon’s Loyalty Award. I was nominated for this fantabulous award by Catnip Of Life on March 20, 2013 (hide human, hide).
I want to give huge thanks to Catnip of Life for this award!
I am not sure how many of my furriends have received it. I am not sure I have seen it that much. The Dragon’s Loyalty Award is the combination of two awards I already received : the “Very Inspiring Blogger” and the “Versatile Blogger” awards. Isn’t the result of the combination super cool?
So, what are the rules to accept the award?
1. Display the Award Certificate on your website
Done!
2. Announce your win with a post and link to whoever presented your award
Done!
4. Drop them a comment to tip them off after you’ve linked them in the post
Will do that as soon as the post is online.
5. Post 7 interesting things about yourself
Now this is a bit difficult. Hmmm… okay let’s go!
1- I like to sleep with one of my hind legs touching my nose (no comment!)
2- I eat Milou’s food sometimes, but so does Kitshka!
3- I can’t understand why Milou would play with Kitshka yet still hiss at me!
4- I like to wake up the humans with a song around 4 am sometimes.
5- I need to have my human for myself alone some of the time.
6- You know the little bumps on French madeleines? Well, once my human baked some and left them on the table and I nibbled on all the bumps.
7- I am on a quest to turn the humans’ black sofa into a white one (Kitshka is helping on this project).
There you go! Now you know there’s a dragon sleeping inside of me =^.^=
First, some blog admin related comments: Some of your comments have been going to the spam filter (very few) or the waiting for approval filter recently, even though you had already commented here before. Please rest assured that I check both filters, so do not fear if your comment isn’t appearing instantly. Hopefully, the problem will be fixed soon.
Now regarding yesterday’s post, some of you asked what was the giant bug and some of you guessed right: it was a huge grasshopper!
[You can click on the pic to biggify if it’s not large enough for you ;-)]
It was on the outside side of the window but Kitshka is generally not afraid of the bugs, she tries to play with them but gets bored quite rapidly! A little bit like me with my snail!
In other news, it’s been decades since I have posted about awards I received and shared. My human being a bit lazy about that, I forced her to bookmark the posts of the bloggers who gave me an award to post about it later. Today is later, in part.
So without any particular order, I will do an award post now and then to thank the furriends who awarded me and to share the awards!
On November 8, 2012 (seriously, human, aren’t you very ashamed?!), my good furriend Sammy shared one of Nerissa’s awards, the Bring On The Nip Award! Thank you so much, Sammy! You know I love nip, don’t you?
What is required to accept this award?
1. Thank the blogger who gave you this award and link back to their blog.
Done!
2. Tell everyone something you wanna celebrate.
I would have to say that my human finally decided to tackle those late award acceptances…
3. Share the award with one to twelve blogs.
Here are the bloggers I share this award with (since many in the cat blogospere got it, since my human is extremely late, I will try and share it with bloggers I think might not have it):
If you already have it, I apologize. Just think of it as more nip coming your way ;-) If you don’t accept awards, that’s okay, I just want to show my thanks and appreciation by sharing your bloggie on mine.
Today is Thursday, September 26. It is Remember Me Thursday, the day to light a candle for the pets lost in order to shine light on the pets waiting to be adopted.
You can light a virtual candle online, on the event’s page, here.
We have decided to put our metallic cat to use: he is holding our candle today.
Kitshka was momentarily intrigued by what the metallic cat was holding.
Please be very careful with candles around kitties (or the other way around). Do not light the candle without it being out of reach of kitties (I know it sounds evident but I’d rather remind it).
If it seems to you that the candle resemble a little cake, you would be right. Well, it’s not a real cake put on fire! My silly human realized too late that these fantasy candles were the only ones she had. But all in all, it is like offering a treat to a kitty, so I think it is okay.
And on this day, we, kitties and humans in this house, are thankful that we have found each other.
When my human goes to a pet store to buy our food, she cannot help but check on the kitties waiting for their forever humans to come adopt them. It breaks her heart to sometimes see the same kitties grow old in these cages, going from playful kittens to resigned “teenage” cats, to sad adult cats. She would adopt them all if she could, I bet, but besides not having the financial means to do so, she also cares about our well-being. I demand a lot of attention from my human. Yes, I love Kitshka and I enjoy having her to play with, but I need my time alone with my human and she knows that I’d rather have her for myself.
In the meantime, she knows that some people who can afford to adopt a cat, and express the desire to do so, sometimes do not do so for the silliest reasons: how many times has she heard someone tell her that they would love to adopt a kitty, but they abhor the idea of having to clean the litter box every day. Huh?
Sometimes, people just wait because, well, because there are other things happening in their lives, and they think a kitty will be an impediment in their busy life.
Many of these people are good people who would benefit from a cat-human relationship and give much in return to the kitty. But those who have never been owned by a cat do not know the benefit a human and a kitty will get from each other in terms of love, happiness, fun, and so much more.
In addition, they do not gravitate in kitty universe like we cat bloggers do. They don’t go to the pet store every other week, and see the same kitties going from a feeling of “life as fun,” to a feeling of “life in a cage, why?” They do not necessarily know that if some cats do not get adopted, they are killed in some shelters. My human was shocked as a kid when she learned that. Most don’t know. They don’t know about cat overpopulation and shelter overpopulation either.
Why am I telling you all this, on a bloggie that is usually more about my cuteness and fun?
I was contacted on Twitter by the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals to know whether I could help share the meow about an event that will take place next Thursday, September 26. I had not heard of this event, so I thank them for pointing that out.
“Animal lovers and organizations across the globe unite on the fourth Thursday of September to light a candle in remembrance of the millions of orphan pets who lost their lives without the benefit of a loving home and to shine a light on the millions of orphan pets still waiting for their forever homes.”
—
“Millions of shelter pets lose their lives each and every year. Join the awareness campaign – be a light for pets by promoting awareness about pet adoption. By remembering those we have lost, we can shine a light on the ones we can save.”
Helen Woodward Animal Center is uniting with animal-lovers and animal welfare organizations globally in a Remember Me Thursday candle-lighting ceremony. The candles, lit on the exact same day across the world, will honor the millions of pets who lost their lives over the past year without the benefit of a loving home. Word of the awareness campaign has spread in the form of celebrity social media posts and rescue facilities from New York City to Puerto Rico to Japan have joined the cause.
You can learn more by following both links above.
No, lighting a candle on one night will not give a home to all the animals who are waiting to be adopted. But it raises awareness, and if the word is shared around the word, and candles lighted, chances are that some people will see the message, ask about the candles, and maybe – hopefully – decide to and do adopt an animal.
That is why I decided to share this event with you ahead of time. This is next Thursday.
I have focused this post on kitties because, obviously, this is a cat blog. But there are many different animals waiting to be adopted, which this event will honor.
Although we had planned to slowly go back to regular posting and I had something cool to show your from my place of birth, Paris in France, I want to dedicate this post to another subject.
As you probably all know by now, yesterday was a(nother) sad day: we learnt that our dear furriend Dash had been forced to the Rainbow Bridge. My human and I were shocked by the news of course, and by the circumstances that caused this. We had not known Dash for such a long time – about a year. Dash was a Twitter legend and of course, we had met him on Twitter, during a pawty held by Sparkle.
We had exchanges with him and his human and could feel how much they were dedicated to helping kitties together and they radiated kindness.
We want to pay a simple tribute to all the furriends that we lost recently. We are very sad to see you go, but we will always remember you and keep you in our hearts.
Below are graphics made by Miss Ann of Zoolatry, or the humans of the kitties gone to the Bridge. I hope it is okay that I have borrowed them. They are pictures of furriends I knew and followed (You can click on the pictures to visit their blogs). I know that other furry friends have gone to the Bridge too, and this tribute is for them too.

I find it appropriate to also use this post to share a special message regarding two kittens who are looking for their furrever home: Ray Charles and Rachel. If you haven’t heard of them, please share this info so that anyone who can be interested in adopting them could know about them.
They are currently being fostered by Selina‘s humans. You can also find more information by clicking on the image below: it will take you to their blog, set up by Brian’s human.

Thank you for your help!
To all a good weekend. Take care and hug your furry friends and/or humans!
